Wm. Lee Free Frank signature as Second Auditor of the Treasury Department of the United States on FL with indistinct Washington City CDS from the 1820s. Cannot be later than 1829, the year Lee left that position. Addressed to Reuben Lewis (who was not the Agent) at the Cherokee Agency, Arkansas. Outgoing correspondence from 1834 to 1836 has been preserved on microfilm in the National Archives. The Agency was established in 1813 and existed until the Treaty of May 5, 1828, removed the Cherokee to Indian Territory (now Oklahoma), and in 1830, the agency was moved to Fort Gibson, Indian Territory.
