Vignette shows a six block area. In the upper left seems to be the Artesian Well Ice House!!! UNIQUE! Ed. Mendal lithographer. #54 for 2 shares. Dateline Chicago 1867. 25c Certificate revenue stamp. Signed by president Brown. One heavy vertical fold and nicks on edges. Otherwise very nice. In 1863 a clairvoyant convinced A.E. Swift and Thomas Whitehead that Chicago was the perfect place to drill for oil. In November of 1864 at 711 feet, they struck a gusher of water. It shot 80 feet into the air. They had an artesian well.
