Presentation piece of railroad track from the Union Steel Co. to V. F. Jilson, "C. K. & N., 60 lb., 1887". Jilson was a director of the Chicago, Kansas and Nebraska Railroad. It was organized in Kansas in 1886, the same year the first of the track was laid. Track was finished in 1887. According to Poor's Railroad manual, "The road is laid with 60# steel, with 66 engines, 37 pass cars, 40 cabooses and 3814 freight cars". Union Steel was a Pennsylvania company bought by Carnegie in 1904. This is a rare presentation piece to the first company secretary upon completion of the railroad.
