This lot contains three signature pieces, 2 common stocks and one bond. 1) 10 shares issued in 1852, signed by John B. Jervis as president. Jervis was an American Civil Engineer and inventor. Jervis designed and supervised the construction of five of America's earliest railroads, engineered three major canals and also the Croton aqueduct which supplied New York City. Hole cxls partially affect his signature. 2) 100 shares, #22, issued in 1857, and signed by Henry Farnam as president. Farnum was also a railroad builder and executive. He helped build the Chicago,Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. Punch cxls barely touch his signature. 3) $200 Certificate, convertible into common shares at par for about six months. Issued in 1866 and payable in 1881. Unusual sort of convertible bond. Signed by Charles W. Durant as president. Charles was the younger brother of Thomas Clark Durant. Thomas Durant was also involved with this railroad. He organized the Union Pacific during the construction of the transcontinental railroad (Cox). Cert. #3 is red pen and hole cxled. Holes affect Durant's signature.
