Very nice collection of Chief Joseph ephemera. Chief Joseph (1840-1904), leader of the Nez Perce, as was his father. The Nez Perce lived on lands "granted them" by the Treaty of Walla Walla in 1855, about 7.7 million acres. In 1863, the Anglos decided they wanted the Nez Perce land and eliminated 90% of the "reservation," out of the treaty. By 1877, the Anglos had reneged on almost every aspect of the treaty which led to war. Chief Joseph was forced to surrender, but never stopped the campaign to regain his rightful tribal lands. Over the years, much has been written on Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce war, where almost every aspect of treaties signed were broken. The largest painting in this collection is and acrylic by Lucita Woodis, a New Mexico multi-media artist, 36x26", unframed. It has some canvas wrinkles, please inspect. The rest of the collection contains ten framed items of varying sizes from 6x9" to 14x20", and 4 collectible plates with scenes of Chief Joseph's life. Please see the photo.
