City of Seattle named after him. He was a leading figure among his people. He worked get along with white settlers.  Formed a personal relationship with "Doc" Maynard. David Swinson " Doc " Maynard (March 22, 1808 – March 13, 1873) was an American pioneer, doctor and businessman and one of Seattle's primary founders. Compared to other white settlers, he was a relative advocate of Native American rights. He died June 7, 1866 at Port Madison, WA.  Chief Seattle's oldest daughter was Princess Angeline who saved the settlement of Seattle from massacre in 1856.
