This a true 49er letter with unique content!!! Dated August 31, 1849 with San Francisco 1st cancel. The gold dust would be going directly to the U. S. Mint in Philadelphia to be coined! "Please write by return steamer that a policy will be open to remit by 1st January steamer." Addressed to Ludlow & Beebe Co, bankers. Ludlow and his brother were Sacramento bankers. $20,000-25,000 expected to be shipped on SS Panama September 2nd. Documents one of the earliestt shipments of Gold to the Philadelphia Mint!
