Choice Tahoe Tavern souvenir sterling silver spoon with engraved bowl, "Tahoe Tavern" and "Lake Tahoe, Cal." Vignette of the Tavern building in the woods. Fish handle. Reverse marked sterling. 5.25" Believed to have been made based on Harold Parker photograph and sold in the Tahoe Tavern gift shop c.1906-10. The Tahoe Tavern first opened in the spring of 1902. It was built by DL Bliss who had made his fortune in supplying lumber to the Comstock mines. Bliss transitioned from lumber to creating the tourism industry in Tahoe. He built the Tavern, a railroad from Truckee to the pier at Tahoe City, and employed a line of passenger steamboats. This spoon dates to the early promotional period for Tahoe!
