This 16 -3/8-inch copper plaque was made for the 1893 World Columbian Exposition (a.k.a. Chicago World's Fair) by the Hausman Company of Niagara Falls, New York. The central 3/4-portrait image of Christopher Columbus is encircled by images of his voyage across the Atlantic and arrival in the New World. The outer edge is labeled EXHIBITION OF CHICAGO / HIS ARRIVAL / DISCOVERY OF AMERICA 1492 / HIS COMING BACK. It is signed in the lower right / Tonetti Paris 1892 / which would be artist Francois Michel Louis Tonetti (1863-1920). The plaque appears to have been made as an embossed copper shell that was subsequently heavily plated with copper in a galvanic cell. The plated layer is delaminating at several locations around the rim. The plaque is entirely non-magnetic. There are two rings soldered onto the back at the 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock positions strung with a wire for hanging.
