Cert. #565, issued for 5 shares in 1854 to Lillius L. Harding and signed by Caleb B. Smith as president and Thomas B. Sample as secretary. Caleb Smith was an Indiana politician who helped Lincoln secure the nomination for president in 1860. He was rewarded by being named Secretary of the Interior from 1861-62, and later a U.S. District Court Judge (Cox). Cox does not list this iteration of the railroad's title using "Railway" instead of "Railroad", but lists an 1853 bond from Cincinnati, New Castle & Michigan Railroad, with Smith signing also. So apparantly, the rail went by both names in 1853. Highly unusual, and rare. Uncancelled.
