Thomas E. Riddle (1846-1954) was the last surviving Civil War Confederate veteran (to see combat). His birthdate was April 16, 1846 in Nashville, Tn. and died April 2, 1954 in Austin, Texas. This is a cut square with his autograph. Numerous claims to "last surviving Civil War veteran" exist where no records of birth or surviving witnesses exist. However, Riddle's claim is that he was the last surviving veteran to see combat; and thought to be true. The cut square is 3 in. X 3.5 in. with witnesses signatures. Very good condition.
