An amazing autograph album of key figures during the latter part of the Civil War plus a number of later entries, apparently mostly collected at Washington, DC., and possibly some in Illinois and Missouri. The list of people is a virtual "who's who" of (northern) American Indian chiefs of the period. The book contains well over 150pp, but only about one third are full. 7.5 x 8.5 in. A few of the notables: U. S. Grant; R.J. Walker (MS Senator and Secty Treasury); Ed Stanton (Secty War); Gideon Welles (Secty Navy); Gen C C Augur (General at Baton Rouge); H.W. Hallack (General western div in early CW); Irwin McDowell (Maj General); Anna Dickenson (Abolitionist from PA, first woman to make political address to Congress). Chiefs: Jon Ross, Chief Cherokee Nation, ref Trail of Tears; Evan Jones, Cherokee Nation; "The Shell Bearer", chief of the Seneca Nations, NY; "The Pacificator", Peter Wilson, Grand Sachem of the Six Nations of New York; Evan Jones, Cherokee Nation; Morris Pierce, The Swift Runner, Chief, Seneca Nation; Ouray, Chief of the Utes; many more.
