This is a brass cartridge box with a spring loaded closure made by B. Kittredge & Co. of Ohio with a patent (reissue) date of April 14, 1863. A very rare find. Designed to hold metallic cartridges for either the early Henry rifle or Spencer carbine during the Civil War. This one has been used, it shows modest wear at the belt loops and the leaf spring works properly. No dents with even patination. 5 in. X 3.5 in. Overall very good condition.
