It is rare to find a Death Certificate from the Civil War. This one was issued on August 25, 1863 for a Private Lewis Fouche of Cutt's Battalion from Georgia while at General Hospital in Lynchburg, Virginia. Cause of death was "feveris vermittins" or a septic infection. Likely caused by a bullet wound that he sustained in the battle at Gettysburg a month earlier. Signed by surgeon Thomas H. Fisher. In very good condition. A water stain at the top left and small conservation tape in the back. [] [Georgia] [] [] []
