This letter written by J. G. Grant (written in 1916 reflecting on his duty) as a Union soldier on guard duty in Lexington, Virginia in October, 1865. He had a thought to salute the General Robert E. Lee to see IF he would salute a Union soldier-and he did. 6.5 in. X 9 in. with soft folds very readable. Very good condition, bold signature. [Lexington] [Virginia] [] [] []
