This is a three page letter (7 x 4.5") from a soldier, L. N. Pollack to Miss Anna. Written on June 13, 1864. "P. S. The boys are all well. We are laying within twenty miles of RIchmond. We have marching orders but I don't know where we are going."He seems to be a member of the 155th Regiment under Captain Whitstar. This would be the 155th Ohio regiment. On June 2717 they arrived at Bermuda Hundred, Virginia. "Dr. FS Whitslar was a soldier in the civil war being mustered out a captain of the 155th regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Capt Whitslar performed gallant service and was commended by superior officers for bravery and meritorious conduct. Before the war he was active in politics and was an anti slavery advocate and assisted many slaves to escape by the Underground Railroad. He was the first president of the Youngstown city council" [American Dental Journal - Volume 8] (Potter Collection) Date: 1864 City: White House State: Virginia HWAC# 56065
