These are discovery Civil War pieces. Lot of nine. 1) "In the Field" May 5, 1864." "Regt to go to Cattawah which is fifteen miles from Clarland and mid way from the latter to Chattanooga." "This is the third day in the field and no fighting yet....we are ten miles from Dalton, Ga. I don't think the Rebs will make a stand there. We shall see." This letter certainly indicates that the author was with General Sherman. 2) "Section 49 of the Parkville North Western RR, June 17, 1864" "...and when the war is over if they don't kill me..." "I have not been paid for four months." "Everything is as usual here foraging, Pickett duty is the order of the day..." 3) I am very sorry to inform you & Bro. Elmore that Our Bro. Richard is no more he died on the 24th of October of Brain fever..." This letter has been ripped. These three letters were only quickly perused by us and the other six have not been read.
