This long-knife appears to have been blacksmith made from a repurposed saber bayonet. The fuller runs almost the full length of the blade. 18 1/2 in. overall length and the blade is 12 in.
The grips are an unknown hardwood also repurposed, etched into the left side: "2 NC Vol's" held with one brass pin and fits the right hand, markings for the 2nd North Carolina Volunteers, Union soldiers from the Confederacy established in late 1863.
