Copy of photo of Alexander Sides, 126 Regiment, Co. D, Illinois Volunteer Infantry Volunteer wearing 2 pistols a widow gave to him when he & another soldier were looking for food in the widow's home. There was no food readily available in sight, but he opened the oven door & found a pan of biscuits. Alexander Sides told the widow to keep the biscuits as she had 2 children to feed. The widow gave him the biscuits & 2 pistols she had in the house. The widow's husband was killed in the Southern Army.
