Copy of photo of Alexander Sides, 126 Regiment, Co. D, Illinois Volunteer Infantry Volunteer wearing 2 pistols a widow gave to him when he & another soldier were looking for food in the widow's home. There was no food readily available in sight, but he opened the oven door & found a pan of biscuits. Alexander Sides told the widow to keep the biscuits as she had 2 children to feed. The widow gave him the biscuits & 2 pistols she had in the house. The widow's husband was killed in the Southern Army. Alexander Sides was born 3/12/1842 & died 11/26/1917 in Hastings Nebraska. 3.5" x 4.5". Shows slight wear on sides, please inspect. Salvatore Falcone Collection. State: Nebraska City: Date: Civil War
