If the psychedelic sixties were born in the dance halls of San Francisco, then they were conceived in a saloon in a small western mining town where the musicians carried Winchesters, the kitchen served French gourmet meals, and the cocktail waitress packed a doorknob for subduing rowdy customers. This is the story of that place and of the extended family that grew out of those wild times. This classic group of Red Dog Saloon / Charlatans memorabilia from 1994-2015 covers events, performances, artwork and films honoring the Life & Times of a genre birthed in Nevada's most famous mining town, still reminiscent of it's humble beginning and psychedelic summer of love, Virginia City, Nevada. Red Dog Saloon, the Charlatans, Psychedelic Rock n' Roll and the "Hippy" generation are as much a part of Virginia City's history and charm as the Comstock Mining camps, Nevada Silver and the Sutro Tunnel. Nevada historians, music buffs and mining enthusiasts alike can appreciate the colorful characters and remarkable circumstances that all contributed to VC's unique charm and rich culture over the last 150 years. This Lot is just one more integral piece of the pie representing the area's remarkable history. Sparking from a twist of circumstances no one could predict and culminating in an entertaining scene in a little western saloon named the RED DOG, began a massive movement that swept a generation and changed music, society and American culture forever, the significance of which can not be overlooked or understated.
