Cleveland, Emery Co., Utah State (Territory crossed out). Dateline Cleveland, Utah, Nov. 3, 1895. No. 245, issued for 300 shares to Peter Pehrson. Signed by president Joseph Potter and secretary M.L. Snow. Not cancelled. Black border and print, red title. Small agricultural vignette. Printed by Merchant Printing Co., Salt Lake. 6.75 x 10.5" Folds, creased corners, some staining around edges. Samuel Alger surveyed the route of the Cleveland Canal in 1885. During the four years of construction, a cooperative arrangement was developed whereby some men worked in the mines and contributed to the living expenses of others who worked on the canal. The canal as originally completed was twenty-five miles in length, much of it through rock ledges and shale hillsides, and at a cost reported at $530,000.
