Coliseum / J.T.H. / Theatre // GF / 12 1/2 / Cts. / IT / At The Bar. White metal. Round. 24mm. Possibly territorial. J.T.H. stands for James T. Hensley, who ran this vaudeville theater as well as saloons and brothels with his wife, Josephine, a famous Helena prostitute and madam nicknamed "Chicago Joe." She became one of the most influential business owners in Helena. The Coliseum was lavishly decorated and featured beautiful performers. It later even had a section that functioned as a brothel. Their businesses suffered in the panic of 1893, and she lived in poverty until her untimely death in 1899 from pneumonia at the age of 55. She was so well-liked by the Helena community that she was given a proper funeral and burial in the Catholic cemetery. (Svoboda Collection) City: Helena State: Montana Date: HWAC# 29556
