Stock Certificate from the Colorado Central Rail Road Company. Incorporated in 1866 in the Wyoming Territory. Early number certificate number 3 issued in 1880 at Cheyenne to William W. Corbett. Signed by WAH Loveland, and Edmond L Berthoud. Printed by Collier & Cleaveland Litho / Denver, Colo. Size 10.75 by 6.5 inches. In fair condition. Cancelled. Nice vignette of a wagon train, making its way across the prairie, to the foot of the mountains. Signed by President Loveland (a true Colorado railroad king), and countersigned by Edmond Berthoud, Secretary. Note: Territorial stock !! The Colorado Central Railroad operated in Colorado and southeastern Wyoming in the late 19th century. It was founded in the Colorado Territory in the wake of the Colorado Gold Rush to ship gold from the mountains. It expanded from its GoldenñDenver line to form a crucial link connecting Colorado with the transcontinental railroad and the national rail network. The history of the railroad throughout the 1870s was driven at times by a fierce struggle between local interests, led by W.A.H. Loveland, and outside investors of the Union Pacific Railroad at times by Jay Gould. Here we have both names on this stock certificate.
