Colorado City, Cripple Creek, Telluride - Trinidad 1903-1904 James H. Peabody Governor of Colorado. Badge with engraving of governor with a red white and blue ribbon in good condition. This is a fascinating Colorado badge. Peabody was governor of Colorado from 1903-1905. Before being governor, he was a very successful businessman in Canon City. He ran on the "law and order" platform. During his term, he had to deal with the Colorado Labor Wars, and his response was to send in militias. During the Cripple Creek Miner's Strike (1903-1904), he responded to the mine owner's pleas by sending in 1,000 troops and declaring martial law. His response to that situation doomed his attempt at re-election in 1905. City: Cripple Creek State: Colorado Date: 1903-1904 hwac# 35769
