A black iron mining mortar and pestle. It was used by a man named John B. Smith who prospected in Colorado and Kansas and passed this tool down the family line. Mortar and pestles were used by miners to crush ore containing samples and extract the ore from within. This one seems to be in good shape with most of the coloring remaining. The top measures 4.25 inches in diameter and it is 4 inches tall. HWAC# 49158 Date: 1800s Location: Colorado
