Stock Certificate from the Colorado Springs and Suburban Railway Co. Incorporated in Colorado. Certificate number 12 issued in 1901 at Colorado Springs to W. S. Stratton. Signed by vice president D. H. Rice, and W. Floyd. Printed by Out West PTG & Stay Co. Size 11 by 8 inches. In nice condition. Not cancelled. Vignette of trolley car. This stock is issued to W.S. Stratton, Cripple Creek mining magnate. He discovered the Independence Lode near Victor, Colorado on July 4, 1891, and became the Cripple Creek district's first millionaire in 1894. Stratton purchased the Colorado Springs Rapid Transit Railway in 1901 and consolidated it in 1902 with the Colorado Springs & Suburban Railway Company. It was an electric trolley system that operated in Colorado Springs, its suburbs, and Manitou Springs.
