This is a model 1862 Colt Pocket Navy; S/N 9151 with a Richards conversion and a 4/12 in. barrel. Only 6500 of this model were made. The serial number is visible on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, and backstrap bottom. The cylinder is a 5-shot .38 cal. with a stagecoach robbery scene stamped in the cartouche #6746 with a side stamp outside of the cartouche of #151 (matching the frame markings). Clearly, the factory reused a pocket pistol cylinder re-stamped for this conversion. The frame is marked:" ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK US AMERICA" which is consistent with this conversion. The frame is marked on the left side with the patent dates: "pat. July 25, 1871." and "pat. July 3, 1872." on the second line. .36 cal. remains on the left side of the trigger guard. The barrel is round with a plugged loading lever, replaced with a bull's eye extracting rod. The loading gate is #2805 with a spring, the hammer is beautifully machined with a spur held by two cross pins for rim-fire .38. A pin front sight and soldered rear sight at the breach of the barrel finish the conversion. One-piece walnut grips are heavily varnished but looks to be original finish from the factory. The mechanism functions correctly and in-time. C.1875. This gun is an antique and no attempt has been made to fire this gun to confirm its mechanical integrity. Nor should this gun be fired without the examination by a qualified gunsmith. Any attempt to fire an antique gun is at the risk of the owner and not consistent with the value of the firearm. No sales to New York, New Jersey, California, and Hawaii. This is an antique, non FFL firearm. (Reference Colt an American Legend R.L. Wilson, 1985). Overall length is 7 in.
