This Model 1877 Colt double action revolver was commonly called the "Thunderer" for its .41 caliber and bird's head style grip. This model was a favorite carry gun of John Wesley Hardin, Henry McCarty AKA Billie the Kid, and Doc Holliday. This one is S/N 30368 and #870 on the loading gate, with a birthdate of 1881 carried on a ranch in the Berryessa Valley. It is nickel plated at about 30% with a 3 1/2 in. barrel and no ejector rod. The Colt address is in two lines on the barrel, the caliber is marked 41 on the left side of the barrel barely visible. There are three patent dates of 1871, 1874, 1875 on the left side of the frame. The grips are two piece black hard rubber with the rampant colt in the oval. The checkering on the grips is light, more smooth on the bottom than the top. The action is smooth double action, the bore is fresh and clean with light rifling. Overall condition is very good. This gun is an antique and no attempt has been made to fire this gun to confirm its mechanical integrity. Nor should this gun be fired without the examination by a qualified gunsmith. Any attempt to fire an antique is at the risk of the owner and not consistent with the value of the firearm. No sales to New York City, New Jersey, California, and Hawaii. No FFL required. [ 1877
