This Colt Pocket Pistol is a .38 CAL. rimfire. This cartridge was popularized in the 1870's-1890's. S/N 718600 with a naval scene on the cylinder all numbers matching. Colt records indicate this gun was made in 1857 as a Navy and later converted to rimfire cartridge. It wears a 5 in. barrel without a loading lever. The backstrap is inscribed "Pinkerton Agency * John Clark" the barrel flat reads "-ADDRESS SAML. COLT NEW YORK CITY-" . The gun is nickel plated as is the trigger guard and backstrap which has significant nickel loss and shows bright brass. A spurred hammer is used for rimfire ignition. The gun does not time well. No caliber designation markings on the trigger guard. The ejector rod is the swivel type lever. Twenty rounds of ammunition, a Pinkerton badge, and display case are included. c.1870's. This gun is an antique and no attempt has been made to fire this gun to confirm their mechanical integrity. Nor should this gun be fired without the examination by a qualified gunsmith.
