This 36 in. X 36 in. tablecloth belonged to Francis Colt of Pittsfield, Massachusetts . The fabric is sand colored linen and beautifully embroidered. The quality of the embroidered flower and vine pattern is exceptional. The bordering is also hand sewn but can only be determined to be hand work by close examination. The overall appearance is a beautiful pattern of representational flowers and scrolling including a basket-weave. The cloth is used with one very small repair in one corner. The Massachusetts Colt clan were well aware of the Colt family name and repeated the name Samuel for generations to follow. The is believed to be made in 1809 by a member of the Colt family household but deserves further research.
