Pocket map, published by J.H. Colton, New York, 1852. (6" x 4") 89 pp. plus 18 pp. catalogue of maps, etc. Colton’s Western Tourist & Emigrants Guide (1856) Guide book and Map was to be use by emigrants traveling west when there were only 10 states that were considered the West. Book gives routes and distances on the great lines of travel, description of states, along with valuable information that would be needed to travel in 1856. Map is hand colored and very detailed. Book & Map are in good condition for being over 150 years old.Large folding map: Smith, J. Calvin: "Guide Through Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin & Iowa, Showing the Township lines of the United States Surveys, Location of Cities, Towns, Villages, Post Hamlets, Canals, Rail and Stage Roads." Beautiful full period color map, 21 7/8 x 26 3/8 inches. The map depicts the region as far west as the Missouri river. M ap is glued into front upside down. Published by J. H. Colton adn Company, new York, 1856. Maroon cloth covers, front book cover pictorially stamped in gilt, the back cover repeating the design in blind. 96 pp., plus listings for other catalogues at back.
