No. 73, issued to Hurlburt, agent for O.R. and N. Co. for 1896. Signed by J.W. Troup as manager. Printed on yellow cardstock. Endorsed by Hurlburt on reverse. Some soiling. This company was incorporated in 1890 and was so successful it was purchased by Central Pacific Railroad in 1897. In addition to a railway, they offered steamer service on Kootenay Lake and then the Arrow Lakes to take advantage of increased mining activity in the 1890s. The Kootenay Gold Rush began as gold was discovered in Wild Horse Creek near the Kootenay River at Fort Steele. Thousands of settlers arrived, mostly from the United States, to stake their claim, and many would stay. (Prag Collection) City: State: Washington / British Columbia Date: Inventory# 39159
