From History of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania: With Biographical ..., Volume 1: "The company was organized in the spring of 1829 by the election of Evan Green, president and William Dick, secretary. A large and judicious selection of books and pamphlets were purchased." But in four years the books and property of the company were sold to pay its debts. Shareholders received $2 on each share of stock, which was worth $5. Sarah Barber and her husband John were two of the prominent citizens who were shareholders. On the rear, handwriting reads, "Paid December 12th, 1833." 6.25" x 5". Ornate border. Pristine condition.
