Stock certificate for Columbian Manufacturing Company, No. 93894, for $2000 issued to Andrew J. Wilkinson of Boston on November 22, 1854. Clerk Stephen Smith and Treasurer E.P. Whitman signed and crossed out on front, with clerk's signature, Stephen Smith, again below. Transferred in 1865 to Esther Fidelia Wright on rear, with A.J. Wilkinson's, Justice of the Peace John S. Wright and Clerk Chas. P. Richardson's signatures. Incorporated in the State of New Hampshire, with stamp canceled June 30, 1866, in Springfield, and embossed seal. In fine condition with two light folds. Approx. 7.5" w x 8" h.
Colombian Manufacturing Company, is listed as one of the earliest textile mills in Mason Village (Greenville) and New Ipswich, N.H., by the Chamberlin Free Public Library. Ledgers exist as far back as 1829.
But, also recorded in the book, "Fifteenth Exhibition of the Massachusetts Charitable Mechanic Association, in the Building on Huntington Avenue and West Newton Street, Boston, September and October, 1884," Boston: Alfred Mudge & Son, Printers, 24 Franklin Street, 1884, page 169: "'Scalene,' manufactured by the Columbian Manufacturing Co., is a liquid boiler compound for removing scale, corrosion and incrustation, and for destroying all oils, grease and other extraneous matter found in the boiler. The compound appears to be highly endorsed by parties who have used it. Diploma."
