There are two versions of this company's stock certificate. This is the rarer version. Stock Certificate from the Columbine-Victor Deep MTC with Mining Deed,. Located in the Cripple Creek. Certificate number 429 issued in 1895, to W.H. Willis. Signed by president Warren Woods, and F. M. Woods. Printed by Denver Litho Co. Denver, Colo. Size 9.5 by 5.5 inches. Striking colors. Very nice condition. Cancelled. Vignette of miners working in mine. "The Columbine Victor tunnel extends 3,740 feet through Squaw mountain. In connection with this tunnel there has also been done 1,700 feet of drifting. On the MK & T there is a shaft 200 feet deep and 500 feet of drifting. The KPOA has a tunnel of 260 feet. In addition to the above development work there are twenty other shafts ranging in depth from 50 to 150 feet." [The Official Manual of the Cripple Creek District, Colorado, U. S. A.] This lot also includes a mining deed worth 1/6 interest to the Deadwood lode mining claim situated on the northwest slope of Squaw Mountain, Cripple Creek Mining District. Comes with a letter from Mike Hurtt, Cripple Creek History and Collectibles. Hurtt says, "This is a great piece from the Woods' empire building days." Warren Woods, the father, was the president of most of the Woods’ enterprises. Son Frank Woods lived in Victor during the heyday of the gold rush, managing the offices and operations of the Woods Investment Company.
