This has the discharge papers for sailor William Pettigrus from the US Preble that did service during the Mexican American War of 1848. The papers are signed in 1850 during the gold rush years. The document has James Glynn's signature. A second document for William Pettigrus is issued from San Francisco, in S.F. County of California on Feb. 2nd, 1850; an early California document with the seal of a local notary. The Preble served in Japan as well in 1849 in the release of American sailors held prisoner there.
