Rare and very early banking document! Chartered in 1834. No. 471. Issued for five shares on January 7th, 1841 to Mathew Codd. Signed by Spencer Daniels as Cashier. Two small vignettes: allegorical vignette upper right and ship vignette bottom center. Reverse is signed by Codd. Printed by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Co. Measures 4.5" x 8.25" on delicate paper with creases and folds. We were able to find a record of Matthew Codd applying for citizenship in 1827 from Ireland, and a Matthew Codd as proprietor of the Utica Brewery. (Prag Collection)
