Report by Commissioner of the General Land Office, Dec. 13, 1837. Covers : Michigan, Arkansas, District North of Red River - Sothern Western Dist.- Southern Eastern Dist.- of Louisiana, Cherokee Cession Alabama, Territory of Florida. This report is very early in the workings of the GLO. The text clearly states that the Govt does not want land surveyed unless necessary. They also had severe problems employing qualified people to conduct surveys, a problem that persisted through the 1850s. The maps have been removed and placed into specific sate suites to allow for specific state survey study through time, since these reports are, in essence, about the "westward movement.". 74pp.
