Lot of 2 different. 1) Extremely rare Comstock check signed by mining millionaire & "Bonanza King" John Mackay. Issued for Payroll for the Eagle Salt Works (stamped on left border). RN-F. Nevada Bank of San Francisco. Heavy staining and wear--unfortunately most of the documents we have seen for this company have this soiling, so they were not kept in a dry place! Please see photos. Even with the condition issues, this is a very tough Mackay check to find! The Eagle Salt Works deposits were discovered in 1869 by B.F. Leete in Churchill County, Nevada, 15 miles east of Wadsworth. Salt was a very important component in the milling process of Comstock ores! 2) Occidental Mill check signed by Bonanza King and US Senator James G. Fair, 1874. RN-C21b. The Occidental Mill was located on Occidental Grade on the Divide. It was built in 1870 and had 20 stamps. [Ref: Ansari, pg 34, 1989] Virginia City Nevada
