Very rare. Possibly less than 5 known. Dateline Virginia, Nevada, December 30, 1876. D.W. Balch, Proprietor. "Charges the same as the U.S. Branch Mint at Carson." Billed to the Savage Mining Company for 8 ore assays in the month of September. Signed by D.W. Balch. Green print, Enterprise Steam Printing House. Very good condition. Balch previously worked for the Gould & Curry Mill, as well as the Savage Assay Office in the 1860s. He also very briefly served as the assayer for the Carson City Mint in 1869. Balch was also present at the infamous Nevada & Oregon Railway meeting in Reno in 1881 where opposing parties of stockholders got into a disagreement that ended with gunfire. Balch was among those shot and injured (the bullet went through his wrist and into his lungs). He survived. Date: Location: Virginia City, Nevada HWAC# 50921
