Rare. Memorandum of Bullion deposited at the Comstock Lode Assay Office at Virginia, Nev., July 1st, 1876 by the Vivian Mill for the Overman Mining Company. Two deposits, 2,760 ounces, valued at $5,463.20. Form breaks down weights before and after melting, value of gold and silver, and fees. D.W. Balch, Assayer. Green print. 7 x 8.5" Balch was appointed as the first assayer of the Carson City Mint, but never worked there. He worked as an assayer for the Savage Mine. In May of 1872, Balch became owner of the Comstock Lode Assay Office on the S.E. corner of "C" St. & Taylor in Virginia City formerly owned by W.C. Bousfield who in turn had acquired it from Theall & Co. The Vivian Mill was located on the Carson River. The Overman Mine was staked in Gold Hill in 1859 and was adjacent to the Segregated Belcher.
