Lot of 7 different. 1) Best & Belcher Mining Company. 1877. RN-G. Signed by FF Osbiston as supt. 2) Sapphire Mill/ WS Hobart. 1874. RN-D. Signed by Raymond for Hobart. The Sapphire Mill was located 0.25 miles below Gold Hill and was built in the early 1860s. At the time of this check (1870s), it had 15 stamps, a 40-ton-per-day capacity, and was processing ore from the Crown Point Mine of Gold Hill (Ref:Ansari). 3) Carson & Tahoe Lumber & Fluming Company. 1878. RN-G. Signed by DL Bliss, a key Comstock lumber and Tahoe tourism figure. 4) Brunswick Mill. 1870s, unissued (as normal). RN-G. The Brunswick Mill was located on the Carson River one mile east of Empire City. It was built in 1864. In the time period of this check (early 1870s), it had 56 stamps, 26 pans, 13 settlers, and a 150-tons-a-day capacity. This check likely dates to c.1875, when the mill was taken over by Mackay, Fair, Flood, & O'Brien (Pacific Mill & Mining Co.) to process ore from the Con. Virginia "Bonanza." 5) Savage Mining Company paycheck, 1868, Charles Bonner superintendent. 6) Savage Mining Company, Bank of California, 1897, signed by HM Gorham as supt. Gorham was an important figure in the 1890s-early 1900s on the Comstock and wrote a book about his life there. 7) Gould & Curry Silver Mining Company. Unused 1860s draft with stub. Scarce.
