A Treatise on Concentration of All Kinds of Ores: including the Chlorination Process for Gold-Bearing Sulphurets, Arseniurets, and Gold and Silver Ores Generally. By Guido Kustel - San Francisco: Office of the Mining & Scientific Press, 1868. First edition. 259 pp. Seven large folding plates (18" x 16 1/2") detailing the scaled construction of all the mining equipment (stamp mills, batteries, rolling mills etc.) in use from the Union and Miners' Foundries in San Francisco; 120 diagrams. Original brown cloth. Kustel covers ore dressing, separation of the ore from the Gangue, sizing, reduction worn, concentration, and the Chlorination process for Gold and Silver. This is the first English discussion of the Chlorination process by one of the most respected Mining Engineers and Assayers in the early Western Gold Rush and author of the previous widely respected volume, PROCESSES OF SILVER AND GOLD EXTRACTION, FOR GENERAL USE AND FOR THE MINING PUBLIC OF CALIFORNIA AND NEVADA 1863. Rubbed at edges, covers darkened, with a few ink dots at spine, a few of the plates have short, closed tears with no loss but all need careful opening; previous owner's signature (dated 1883) and old price inked to front paste down; overall near very good.
