A vintage Victor Moses Begay (VMB), Navajo handmade silver, turquoise and coral concho black leather belt. Twelve conchos (2" diameter) plus buckle (2.75" diameter) in perfect condition. Leather of belt (36" ) is worn, could be replaced. Stamped VMB to verso of buckle. Belt is circa 1970's piece. We think of this style as Zuni, not Navajo, but Victor made a career out of these amazing small stone cluster pieces. It has been said that during the Native American jewelry boom he had his own plane that would fly him around the country to deliver orders. Begay was a Navajo master silversmith active from around 1950 until 1983. He is renowned for his traditional fabricated, cluster, petit-point, (needlepoint inlay) jewelry. He resided in Lukachukai, AZ. Victor Moses Begay pieces are extremely rare since he stopped producing in the early 1980's and his work commands top dollar in the jewelry market. Victor Begay was known for meticulously hand cutting his stones and this belt is a real beauty! Date: c.1970's Location: Navajo, Arizona HWAC # 52762
