Two restrikes of the Confederate cent, on in silver and one in goldine. . In 1961, the dies for the Confederate penny were purchased by Robert Bashlow, who had transfer dies made to make restrikes. These coins (or tokens) are double thickness. Copper (bronze) silver and goldine (a gold colored alloy) were used and approximately 30,000 were coined. All these coins bear the chisel marks on the reverse, and pitting (raised lumps) on the obverse. After Bashlow was done, the dies were sent to the Smithsonian, where they rest today. The Bashlow 1961 restrikes have slowly risen in value, with the copper pieces about $50. the silver and goldine at $125. City: State: Date: HWAC# 50459
