This knife was made by M.P.P. or M.R. P. while serving the Confederacy in the 9th Alabama Infantry Volunteers. It is marked on the pommel of the knife. It is 12 1/2 in. long overall and the blade in 8 in. Hand ground and shaped, visible at the ricasso, the grip is lacquered walnut. The guard is also hand made. No sheath. The 9th Alabama fought in such battles as: the Battle of Gaines Mill, the Second Battle of Manassas or Bull Run, Gettysburg, Cold Harbor, the Wilderness, and finally surrendered at Appomattox.
