Lot of 2. Both are Bank of California with RN-G. 1) 1874 check issued to the Virginia & Truckee Railroad, signed by "Bonanza King" James G. Fair. Punch cancelled. 2) 1875 check to JH Clelland, signed by "Bonanza King" John Mackay. Album tape in corners on reverse. The Consolidated (Virginia) Mill was a large reduction mill owned by the Pacific Mill & Mining Co. (Mackay, Fair, Flood, & O'Brien) and located near the Virginia & Truckee Railroad yard. It had 60 stamps, 40 pans, 20 settlers, and 4 agitators. It was destroyed by the Oct. 1875 VC fire and rebuilt (Ansari).
