Stock certificate #994 issued to A.L. Chamberlin for ten shares in the Consolidated Silver Hill Mining Company. Mining vignette, lithography by Britton & Co. S.F. Issued March 1864, making this a Nevada Territorial piece. "Esmeralda' printed on top. Braly, Cory & Hicks staked the first claims in the Aurora Mining District on Silver Hill on August 24, 1860. The first shipment of are was made on November 10, 1860. Shortly thereafter the Esmeralda Mining Company and the Consolidated Silver Hill Mining companies were formed and incorporated. Although the certificate says the company was incorporated in January of 1861, the Daily Alta California reported that articles of incorporation for the company was flied early November 1860!!! They report the mines are in Mono County, said to be Calaveras County.
