Likely for charging a large caliber pistol, and probably civilian-made although unmarked. The American Eagle faces olive branches rather than arrows, so it is probably of post-Civil War design. Of only average quality, possibly with a replaced spout, this could be an original 19th century European-made flask for sale on the American market. From the Dick Reyes Collection.
